Collecting Vintage Dollhouse Miniature Furniture

Whether collected to display on its own, or to furnish roomboxes or doll houses, vintage dollhouse miniature furniture has a special charm, made even more enticing by the knowledge that those vintage pieces just aren't being made anymore.

These are some of the vintage dollhouse furniture names currently sought after and prized by collectors.

The 1920s through the 1950s

The Wisconsin Toy Company

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin Toy Company operated during the 1920s and 1930s, producing both dollhouses and wood furniture. Furniture styles included Art Deco, Art Moderne, Louis XIV, Modern, Traditional and Early American. Some Wisconsin Toy furniture is marked with a "Goldilocks" stamp.

Lynnfield-Block House-Messerschmidt

Lynnfield-Block dollhouse miniature furniture began production in the 1930s and was sold in quality stores like F.A.O. Schwartz and Marshall Field. In the 1940s the line included Duncan Phyfe, blonde "Modern," enameled, Early American and 18th Century pieces. Some are marked "Made in U.S.A."

H.M. Miniatures by Henry Messerschmidt were also sold by Block House in the 1940s and 1950s. Styles included Queen Anne, Duncan Phyfe, Chippendale and Modern.

The 1960s through the 1980s

Andi Imports and Sonia Messer

The Sonia Messer label was manufactured from the mid-1960s until it was discontinued in the early 1980s. These high quality pieces were marked underneath with a paper label that read "Made in Colombia - Exclusively for Sonia Messer Imports - Los Angeles, California." Sonia Messer dollhouse furniture reproduced miniatures of Federal, Duncan Phyfe, Queen Anne, 18th Century French, Early American, Italian 17th Century, Victorian Rococo, Spanish, Contemporary Danish, and Country English designs.

For a short period in the 1960s, prior to the Sonia Messer label, former Messerschmidt designs were manufactured in Colombia by Andi Imports. These pieces were marked with "Made in Colombia" stickers.

Reminiscence

Quality 1980s dollhouse miniature furniture made in Taiwan, R.O.C., under the Reminiscence brand name featured traditional styles, including antique Golden Oak reproductions with pressed design details. Reminiscence also made reproductions of miniatures from the Thorne Rooms. Some Reminiscence pieces have gold paper labels. Others have a calligraphic-style, wood-burned-look R mark on the underside. Thorne Room reproductions have a special wood-burned-look Thorne Room mark.

Lundby

Lundby furniture from Sweden began production after World War II was marketed worldwide in the 1970s and 1980s. In the United States it was sold through the Sears catalog. Lundby also offered dollhouses which could be purchased in sections and combined to build a complete structure. Lundby discontinued production in the 1990s.
